I am getting a new computer soon with:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHZ
4GB 800MHZ DDR2 RAM
680i SLI Motherboard
500GB HD
The only thing I can't decide on is the graphics card. The 9800's are coming out sometime this month (march) or soon. But people have said that the 9800's are not very good. Like the 9800GX2 is just two 8800's on one board with a faster processor. And the 9800GTX is just a 8800GTX with faster processor. So my question is:
Shall I just buy a cheap 8800 card when the 9800's do come out and wait for the NEXT generator of nvidias graphics cards OR should I invest in a 9800 card that will last me for a while.
I want to be able to run Crysis on at LEAST HIGH but preferably VERY HIGH on the resolution 1680 x 1050. If I can run Crysis then I will be able to run every other game like COD4 and UT3.
I need some expert advice.
Thanks
Jake
Just get one 8800GT,GTS, or GTX and you'll be fine. You may also consider an 9600GT to hold the fort down until you have the budget to purchase the good stuff. Ex: I have 2-8600GT's in SLI mode and can play Crysis just fine on very high settings. Get a 780SLI if you can afford it. PCI express 2.0 is out and future video cards and some currently already do support it.
At that resolution. Thats a kinda hard question to answer. The 9600 GT's are out now and two of em in sli outruns a 8800 ultra easily and they cost around 200 USD. If these cant play crysis on high at 1680 x 1050, then i would wait for the 9800's to come out and see how they go. P.S You need at least two 8800 GTX's to run crysis very high at that res.
Ok well if you are prepared to wait then i suggest 9800 because u are wanting to run Crysis on at least a high
but make sure ur power supply is enough and one other thing u could do is get TWO 8800 (if ur mother board can support it)
which will be better then the 9800
also dont worry about the brands there are no differences except the more expensive ones will have a 6 month more warranty than the cheaper ones/
you shouldnt plan to get the 9800 before it comes out. wait a while and see what ppl are saying about it
hoped that helped
I'd say wait and get a 9 series. They already managed to break the 8 series' compatibility with a few features past the first release of Direct X 10. (Correct me if I'm wrong on that)
If you want to run Crysis on very high on such a high resolution then I personally suggest running 2 SLI-ed 8800 Ultras which are sometimes sold overclocked or 2 SLI-ed GTS's which I've heard, can easily out-perform the GTXs. Also make sure you have a good power supply with at least 600W. I run games with a superclocked 8800 GT and I'm pleased with it so the 8800 or 2 8800 if you chose to SLI.
It really depends on what your budget is.. so I hope that helps.
